Stent as a structure is placed in artery to avoid clogging of blood flow path due to plaque or fats and other deposits in artery walls, thus to ensure blood flow is restored. The current day technology is to place a metalic stent either self expanding or balloon expanding in the artery to expand the artery vessel through balloon angioplasty.
